The cooling fan is important because it manages the engine temperature by providing the radiator with air. The cooling fan is composed of a fan blade, mounting shroud, and a motor.
Cooling fan functionThe radiator needs airflow, so when the vehicle slows down or comes to a halt the cooling fan provides the airflow that is necessary to cool it down. There are two different cooling fans which are mechanical and electric. The mechanical fan works when the vehicle is going at a speed of 25 miles per hour. The fan blade is also linked with the clutch which reduces noise and increases fuel efficiency.
The electric cooling fan has the powertrain control module, which is activated when the engine coolant reaches a specific temperature. The fans work until the temperature has dropped below the required switch rating.
Common issues with a faulty cooling fanA faulty cooling fan can cause the vehicle to overheat and it can cause damage to the engine.
