The automatic transmission oil cooler is a heat exchanger that is placed in the front of the vehicle. The oil cooler keeps the fluid from overheating with airflow going over warm fluid before it recirculates back to the transmission.
Transmission oil cooler functionThe automatic transmission oil cooler supplies the hydraulic pressure that allows the transmission to function while lubricating the transmission parts and it also cools the unit so it operates properly. It is important to keep the transmission cooling system in good shape to avoid any failures or repairs.
The process is that the transmission fluid absorbs all the heat from the internal parts and spreads it through the transmission cooler. Some lines are connected between the transmission and the transmission cooler.
Common fails with an automatic transmission oil coolerA failing transmission oil cooler can lead to leaking, the fluid lines can become punctured, and the rubber hoses can decompose.
