You shall make an indentation 10 mm (0.4 in) from the bottom of the tube, clamp the shock absorber in a vise horizontally with the shock absorber rod completely extended, drill a hole in the shock absorber at the centerpunch, make an indentation in the middle of the tube with a centerpunch, drill a second hole in the shock absorber at the centerpunch, and remove the shock absorber from the vise.

You shall clamp the strut in a vise horizontally with the rod completely extended, drill a hole in the strut at the center of the end cap using a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit, remove the strut from the vise, hold the strut over a drain pan vertically with the hole down, and move the rod in and out of the tube to completely drain the oil from the strut.

A:
Start with making an indentation 10 mm (0.4 in) from the bottom of the tube using a center punch. Clamp the shock absorber in a vise horizontally with the shock absorber rod completely extended. Drill a hole in the shock absorber at the center punch using a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit. Gas or a gas/oil mixture will exhaust when the drill bit penetrates the shock absorber. Remove the shock absorber from the vise. Hold the shock absorber over a drain pan horizontally with the holes down. Move the rod in and out of the tube to completely drain the oil from the shock absorber.
