FAQ for Power Steering Reservoir Repair

Q: How to bleed the power steering system?
A:
First, you should dill the power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the minimum system level, the full cold level, or the middle of the hash mark on the cap stick fluid level indicator. Then, you should raise the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground, and with the key in the on position and with the engine off, you should turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 12 times. After that, you should verify the power steering fluid level, start the engine and rotate the steering wheel from left to right. Finally, you should inspect the power steering system, verify the fluid level and lower the vehicle.

A:
You should first remove the air cleaner assembly, place drain pans under the vehicle, and remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible. Then, you should disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose from the reservoir, the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose from the reservoir, and the power steering fluid reservoir from the reservoir bracket. Finally, you should fill and bleed the power steering system and clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
