FAQ for Throttle Body Repair

Q: What is the Throttle learn procedure (Performed after the ECM is flashed or replaced)?
A:
You need to start and idle the engine for 3 minutes. With a scan tool, monitor the desired idle speed and the actual engine speed. The ECM will start to learn the new idle cells and desired idle speed should start to decrease, ignition OFF for 60 seconds, and start and idle the engine for 3 minutes. After the 3-minute run time, the engine should be idling normally. After the drive cycle, the engine should be idling normally. Once the engine speed has returned to normal, clear DTCs and returns to the diagnostic that referred you here.

Q: How do you install the Throttle Body Assembly?
A:
You need to install a new throttle body gasket to the intake manifold, align the tab of the gasket with the notch in the manifold, install the throttle body, bolts, and nuts, connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the electronic throttle control, install the air cleaner outlet duct, connect a scan tool to test for proper throttle-opening and throttle-closing range and operate the accelerator pedal and monitor the throttle angles. The accelerator pedal should operate freely, without binding, between a closed throttle, and a wide open throttle (WOT). Then you can start the engine, inspect for coolant leaks and then perform the throttle learn procedure.
