Q: How to handle it when the Brake Drum cannot be removed?
A:
First, you need to remove the rubber plug from the backing plate, next insert a screwdriver, until contact has been made with the adjuster lever, then slightly push the adjuster actuator lever away from the adjuster, and use a second screwdriver, rotate the adjuster in an upward motion, until the adjuster is seated. Then you should remove the brake drum, and use the J 42450-A to clean the mating surface between the rear axle flange and the brake drum.

Q: How to refinish the brake drum?
A:
You need to use a micrometer to measure the largest diameter of the brake drum. If the largest diameter of the brake drum exceeds the brake drum's maximum refinish diameter, do NOT refinish the brake drum. Replace the brake drum. Then use the J 41013 or an equivalent tool to thoroughly clean the rust from the brake drum flange, and refinish the brake drum. After machining the brake drum, use 120-grit aluminum oxide sandpaper to create a non-directional braking surface. Finally, you need to clean the braking surfaces with GM P/N 12377981 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent brake parts cleaner.
