You should remove the outer tie rod, the hexagon jam nut from the inner tie rod assembly, the tie rod end clamp from the rack and pinion boot, the boot clamp from the rack and pinion boot with side cutters, and the rack and pinion boot and the breather tube.

Q: How do you install the power steering gear?
A:
You should install the steering gear into the vehicle, the steering gear RH isolator bracket, the driver's side carrier mounting bracket-to-frame bolts on 4WD vehicles, remove the front carrier support, and install the crossmember (2WD only), the intermediate shaft to the steering gear, the coupler clamp bolt to the intermediate shaft, the engine protection shield if equipped, the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle and both of the front tire and wheel assemblies.

Q: How do you assemble the rack and pinion boot and breather tube?
A:
You should install the new boot clamp onto the rack and pinion boot, the rack, and pinion boot onto the inner tie rod assembly, install the rack and pinion boot onto the gear assembly until the rack and pinion boot is seated in the gear assembly groove, and install the boot clamp on the rack and pinion boot with J 22610, the tie rod end clamps onto the rack and pinion boot and the hexagon jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.

You should remove both of the front tire and wheel assemblies, the coupler clamp bolt from the intermediate shaft, the engine protection shield if equipped, the steering gear vertical mounting nuts, the washers and the bolts, the driver's side mounting bracket-to-frame bolts on 4WD vehicles, the steering gear horizontal mounting nuts, the washers, and the bolts, the steering gear RH isolator bracket, the cross member (2W only)and the steering gear from the vehicle.
