You should first raise the vehicle, remove the fuel tank shield, disconnect the motor/encoder electrical connector, remove the motor/encoder mounting bolts and the motor/encoder assembly, position the motor on a workbench, release the 4 tabs that retain the motor/encoder plastic baseplate, remove the baseplate/gasket, discard the old baseplate/gasket, gently lift the motor/encoder rotary position sensor from the motor shaft and then disconnect the rotary position sensor from the wiring harness.
