Q: How do you remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module?
A:
You need to disable the SIR system. If the vehicle is equipped with a tilted steering column, you need to lower the steering wheel. You can turn the steering wheel until 2 of the openings are on the top, adjust and install J 44298 into the 2 openings, push the handle back towards the I/P, release the 2 spring loaded fasteners at the same time, turn the steering wheel and repeat the same steps for the other 2 openings, pull the driver inflator module gently away from the steering wheel, remove the connector position assurance (CPA) and the inflator module electrical connector, and rotate the horn contact lead counterclockwise 1/4 turn, and then remove the horn contact lead from the steering column and the inflatable restraint steering wheel module, and fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, you can fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period.
