The proper way is to install a new MAF sensor seal, insert the MAF/IAT sensor into the air cleaner assembly with the connector terminal orientated upward, install the 2 screws securing the MAF/IAT sensor to the air cleaner assembly, and then connect the air intake duct hose to MAF/IAT sensor.

The procedure is to disconnect the electrical connector from the mass airflow (MAF)/intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, disconnect the air intake duct hose from MAF/IAT sensor, and then remove the 2 screws securing the MAF/IAT sensor to the air cleaner assembly.
