Q: How to refinish the aluminum wheel?
A:
You shall remove the tire and wheel assembly, the balance weights and valve stem from the wheel, the tire from the wheel, and the old clearcoat and the old paint from the wheel by plastic media blasting the wheel, mask off the wheel mounting surface and the lug nut contact surfaces., unmask the wheel, install new valve stem and the tire, rebalance the tire and wheel, and install the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle.

Q: What should be noticed while servicing the steel wheel?
A:
You shall not use heating, welding, or peening to repair wheels, and not use inner tubes to repair leaky wheels or tires. You can repair the porosity in aluminum wheels. If leaks are found in a steel wheel, replace the wheel with a wheel of original equipment quality.

Q: How to service the aluminum wheel porosity?
A:
You shall remove the tire and wheel, inflate the tire to 275 kPa (40 psi), submerge the tire/wheel into a water bath, make a mark on the wheel to record the leak areas, make a mark on the tire at the valve stem to record the orientation of the tire to the wheel, remove the tire from the wheel, scuff the inside of the rim surface at the leak area, clean the leak area, apply 3 mm (0.12 inch) thick layer of adhesive/sealant to the leak area, and allow 1 hour for the adhesive/sealant to dry.

When cleaning clear-coated wheels, you shall avoid damage to clear-coat coating by using only recommended clearcoat cleaners, do not use an abrasive pad or harsh alkaline or acid cleaners on clear-coated wheels, and clean aluminum wheels with mild soap and water.
