You need to lubricate the caliper and the steering knuckle, or support, sliding surfaces, and the spring, then place the new pad in a vise and compress the vise as needed to obtain a secure fit between the outer brake pad and the caliper. Next, install the outer brake pad onto the caliper, file the leading edge of the brake pad tang to aid in the installation of the brake pad to the caliper, and install the caliper. Then pump the brakes until the brake pedal is firm before moving the vehicle and check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder after pumping the brakes.

You need to remove the caliper, suspend the caliper, remove the inboard lining, remove the outboard lining and inspect the caliper assembly for signs of fluid leakage and then use a wire brush to remove any corrosion from the machined surfaces of the steering knuckle and the caliper.

The proper way is to install the brake backing plate on the axle, the bolts, the washer to the brake backing plate, the brake components to the brake backing plate, the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder, the axle shaft, the wheel/tire, and brake drum.

You need to raise the vehicle on a hoist, remove the axle shaft, the brake pipe from the wheel cylinder, the brake components from the brake backing plate, the bolts and washers from the axle, and the brake backing plate from the axle.

The proper way is to install the backing plate, the bolts and the washers, the wheel cylinder, and install the linings. Next, adjust the brakes. Then bleed the brake system.
