About Renault R18i
In April 1978, Renault introduced its new family car, the R18i. It is equipped with a 2.2-liter gasoline engine. The first changes came in 1979. The R18i added seat belts at the rear fog lamps and rear fog lights. But the biggest novelty was the launch of the station wagon version. The overhang was extended by 8 cm. Compared to the sedan, this was available in four finishes (Base, TL, TS, and TS Automatic). The Renault R18i was also offered in Base trim with a streamlined look. 1980 saw the TS and GTS trims no longer offered with the automatic transmission. Because the automatic trim appeared. Four- and five-speed transmissions were new for the 1981 type. And the windshield wiper system was also new.
The Renault R18i was also available in a diesel version. And it came with a new engine. An additional 66.5 horsepower was added. 1983 saw aerodynamics improved by the adoption of a refined and streamlined front end and rear spoiler. Door handles were blacked out. And the wagon was fitted with a new rear wiper and a retractable boot lid. It adopted the Turbo's dashboard. The R18i was now offered with GTL 4x4, GTD 4x4, and Turbo interiors. It also featured Gala trim, while the wagon was no longer available in TD and GTL 4x4 trim. Production of the R18i ceased at the end of the year after the introduction of the replacement R21. Production of the R18i continued in several countries until 1993. The total production was 2,095,546 units. The Renault R18i made the most of its role as a station wagon.
