About Plymouth Turismo
The Turismo is a front-wheel drive sports coupe. It was produced by the American automaker Plymouth. It was produced from 1982 to 1987. Until 1982, the Turismo was offered under the name Plymouth TC3. And it was renamed Turismo for the 1983 model year. The name was changed to Turismo for the 1983 model year. And the miser economy version was omitted. The program included the base Turismo with a 1.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine. It produced 63 hp. Then, it was replaced by Peugeot's 64-hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine in early 1983. Or it was replaced by the 2.2-liter four-cylinder (95 PS) for an additional charge. In the 1984 model year, the Turismo was revised with twin headlights, an improved hood, and a wider C-pillar. The engine gained some power: 1.6 liters reached 65 hp, and the regular reached 97 hp. At the same time, the length of the vehicle increased from 4,387 mm to 4,440 mm.
The 1984 type continued to use the front nose cowl/bumper assembly from previous years. 1985 saw Plymouth acquire a version of the old Shelby Charger. So it renamed the Duster the Plymouth Turismo Duster. However, Plymouth would never get the turbocharged version of the Shelby Charger. Two turbocharged Turismo with Shelby front ends were seen at Chrysler headquarters with "Cuda Plymouth" badges. But they did not go into production. In 1985, the output of the 2.2 type was increased to 112 hp. And the factory donated the most powerful Turismo to the front spoiler and door sill skirts. For the base type years 1985 and 1986, there was a Duster package with a rear spoiler, trim strips, special seat covers, and 13-inch sport steel rims. In 1987, the four-cylinder vehicles were discontinued. By the time, production ceased in the summer of 1987. A total of 204,000 Turismos had been produced till then.
