About Plymouth Horizon

The Horizon is a five-door hatchback sold in North America. It was produced from 1978 to the 1990 model year. The Horizon was Plymouth's first front-wheel drive model. The Horizon was also the first front-wheel drive economy car to be assembled in the United States. From 1977 to 1990, the Horizon was produced at the Belvedere Assembly Plant. Production remained virtually unchanged. The body layout of the model series was loosely derived from the VW Rabbit five-door. And it is designed with excellent parts.

The Plymouth Horizon used a front-wheel drive L platform with a long wheelbase. Plymouth made significant changes to the suspension design for the U.S. market. The lineup used front MacPherson struts. While the rear suspension was a semi-independent layout (coil springs, rear longitudinal arms), the Horizon was developed using its own suspension tuning. The car was equipped with power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. The Horizon was sold primarily in a single trim level. And in 1981 and 1982, Plymouth introduced a "miser" version. This lightly equipped version was designed to improve fuel economy. And it included an overdrive manual transmission. 1984 saw the introduction of the SE (Sport) option. It included two shades of exterior paint. 1987 saw the introduction of the American version of the Plymouth Horizon to counter the recent low-cost imports.
