Timing Cover

The timing cover is important because it protects the timing belt, timing chain, or the cambelt. It is composed of long-lasting material like aluminum, plastic, or steel which helps keep out any debris from damaging the teeth of the timing belt.

Timing cover function

The timing cover is also known as the engine front cover, and it uses timing parts on the engine to make sure that the camshaft spins concurrently with the crankshaft. The front engine cover serves a purpose and that is to seal the oil and protect the timing components. The front cover is usually separate from the oil pan and valve covers. When these components come together they make a continuous space where oil can flow freely.

Common issues with a bad timing cover

A bad timing cover can cause oil leaking, rough idling, and an uncommon knocking sound.
