The oil pump receives the oil from the oil pan, and transfers it through the engine to lubricate the parts. Oil pumps last quite a while, but should be replaced when rebuilding an engine. Used to lubricate many parts, it is now recently used for the timing belt tensioner.
PumpsThere are various pumps that are used. Two of the most used pumps are the trochoid and vane pumps. Also, the pumps should be below or near the level of the oil. Separate belts are used to where pumps have been added during tuning. For reliability, electric pumps are not useful. Some have electric oil pumps fitted to the engines, which allows the oil pump to run even if the engine comes to a stop.
Lubricating systemThe oil system is in charge of lubricating the engine when it is running to reduce the friction. It also relieves some of the components from the heat. Without the proper lubrication the engine will fail.
Oil pressureOil pressure is also important as it can give clues, like low pressure can mean there is a leakage. High oil pressure can lead to the seals and oil plug being blown out. Oil pressure should be about 55-65 PSI depending on the RPM.
Driving a vehicle that has a bad oil pump can cause a lot of issues like overheating, low oil pressure, and reducing engine efficiency.
