The oil pan is an essential part of the engine as it holds the oil for the vehicle at all times. The oil is generally used to keep the engine lubricated and it keeps the oil from leaking. The oil pan has many components and can be made up of different materials
Oil pan componentsThe oil pan is attached to the bottom of the engine and it get pumped through the engine. Lubrication helps clean and cool off the moving parts of the vehicle. It is accompanied by a pump that forces the oil to travels through the filter and removes any dirt or dust.
Oil pan material and featuresThe oil pan at one point was made out of steel but nowadays the reservoirs have aluminum. This allows for different shape and designs for the aluminum pans which would be impossible for the steel pans to accomplish.
The oil pan has cooling fans that decrease the temperature of the oil, also modern performance models have baffles that prevent oil from spilling when doing certain turns.
Common issues with oil panA bad oil pan can lead to the leaks around the drain plug, overheating, and low oil level.
