The liftgate is an important mechanical device that is installed at the rear of the vehicle. The liftgate is designed to facilitate the materials handling of goods from ground level or a loading dock. And the most commonly used liftgates are the rail-gate, cantilever, and the tuck-under.
Different types of liftgatesThe rail-gate lifts are the same as column lifts which support the lower lifting position. It is usually installed and located on the vehicle's body. And it serves as a guide for the liftgate platform, the platforms are large and are fixed at a 90-degree angle.
A cantilever lift operates by a couple of rams that are joined to the chassis of the vehicle. These rams are placed on hinges, allowing the movement of expanding and decreasing in size. This type of liftgate has the advantage of being able to tilt which makes it easier to load or unload. The tuck-under lift can be folded and stored under the bed of the vehicle, letting the user have the option of not using it when at a loading dock.
Common problems with a liftgateA liftgate can be susceptible to rust, corrosion, and dents making the vehicle appear disfigured.
