The lift support is a component that helps keep other parts like the hatch, hood, and liftgate, to remain open. They operate by releasing energy that is contained in compressed gas.
Lift support principleLift support that is gas charged has energy container devices that create power by compressing the gas inside the cylinder. The energy is released when you raise the hatch, hood, or trunk, and holds the open position. Normally the lift supports can store a gas charge of 1500 psi, and can't be compressed manually.
Hood lift supports are essential when the user needs to get under the hood. The component's job is to keep the hood up, and while the hood is up the user can work on the engine if needed. Also, the lift supports over time can become vulnerable to wear and tear.
