Ignition Lock Cylinder

The ignition lock cylinder is a component that allows the user to start the engine. When inserting and twisting the car key into the key whole the engine will start right up. It is a crucial part of the ignition switch and it comes with keys and a tumbler to prevent any random key from accessing the vehicle.

Many vehicles nowadays have keyless entry, a button to start the engine, and a system that stops and starts to conserve fuel. Before the push-button feature, the user relied on the ignition switch to start the vehicle. The ignition switch and lock cylinder was usually located on the side of the steering wheel.

The ignition switch can only be turned with the proper key that is inserted into the switch, and once the key is inserted and the key is turned to "start" current will be sent to the starter. The user can also power the radio or windows by turning the switch to the "ON" position.

Common issues with a bad ignition lock cylinder

A bad ignition lock cylinder can lead to the car not starting, the key getting stuck, and powering the vehicle will become an issue.
