Engine Expansion Plug

The engine expansion plug is also known as core plugs, or freeze plugs and they are utilized to fill the sand casting holes located in water-cooled internal combustion engines.

Engine expansion plug purpose

The engine expansion plug or core plugs are usually composed of thin metal cups that are inserted tightly into the casting holes, but they can also be made up of different materials like rubber. In many high-performance engines, the freeze plugs are big-diameter metal threaded pipe plugs. There is also a welch plug, which is made from thin metal and is dome-shaped as well as placed into the casting hole.
