The EGR valve position sensor keeps track of the exhaust gas recirculation valve for the powertrain control module. This lets the PCM always chart the position of the EGR valve and make changes to the emission control system.
EGR valve position sensor functionThe EGR valve position sensor receives voltage from the PCM and the EGR position sensor will send a different voltage. It will tell the PCM to what range the EGR valve is opened or closed. It allows the PCM to check the EGR system functions properly, and to realize when and to what stage the valve should be opened or closed.
Common problems with a bad EGR valve position sensorA bad EGR valve position sensor can cause the engine to run rough, engine misfire, and fuel economy will be poor.
