The coolant level sensor is an electronic sensor that checks the amount of coolant your vehicle contains.
Coolant level sensor basisWhile the engine is running normally it tends to generate a lot of heat, and the cooling system monitors the engine to make sure that it runs within a certain temperature range. And that is accomplished with a mixture of coolant and water that travels past the engine block to draw in excess heat. The coolant is passed through the system via the water pump and controlled by a serpentine belt of the engine.
Coolant level sensor functionThe coolant level sensor detects how much fluid the cooling system contains. The component may be installed in the radiator or the expansion tank. The sensor operates together with the float mechanism which holds a magnet, and as the fluid level rises and falls so does the float as well as the magnet.
Common problems with a faulty coolant level sensorA faulty coolant sensor can be the source of the engine overheating and low coolant levels.
