A brake pad sensor is an extra safety quality in the vehicle. It monitors the brake pad's thickness and lets you know when it needs to be replaced.
Brake pad sensor functionThe presence of the brake pad sensor gets rid of any doubt one might have by letting you know when the pad is ready to be replaced. Also, it makes sure the brake pads are in perfect working order. Modern brake pad sensors eliminate the wire and there is also a two-stage sensor.
The electronic sensor is a loop of wire with a current passing through it and as the pad wears out, the loop will be uncovered and touch the rotor or disc. This lead to creating an open circuit and the dashboard will illuminate a warning light, meaning that you need to change the brake pads. The two-stage is more advanced as they let you know how much mileage is left on the brake pad. It calculates how much life is left by the wheel speed, mileage, and brake pressure and it also illuminates light to tell you that you need a brake service.
Common issues with a bad brake pad sensorA bad brake pad sensor can break, and heat can damage the wiring as well as the clips.
