The battery is the vehicles main source of power in order to start, also there are batteries for gas, diesel, and hybrid cars. The alternator also helps out the battery by charging it while the engine is running. The battery stores energy to make the starter motor function. That is why it is important, to stabilize the voltage and keep the engine running efficiently.

Modern car batteries

Gasoline and diesel engines usually use batteries that offer the maximum current. There is a SLI battery that supplies extra power when requirement have been exceeded. The alternator helps with keeping the voltage between 13 and 14.5 V.

Electric and hybrid cars are power by a battery which contain high voltage. While they also use an automotive battery which is also known as auxiliary batteries. Although the battery for an electric car does not charge with the alternator, there is a converter that provides the essential voltage.

Specifications and maintenance

Batteries are assembled by size, type, and configuration. They also have a unit which similar to storage capacity. With cranking amperages, modern vehicles have computers that control the fuel injection which proves a quick start.

Temperature is important to a batteries lifespan, as excess heat and cold temperature can cause the battery to fail. Also sulfation can occur if the battery is not charged to its fullest, and it is important to not deep discharge an SLI battery as it can compromise lifespan.

A bad battery can cause the vehicle to not start up and damage to electrical components.
