The air spring is a rubber-like bag that takes in compressed air. It is not like coil springs, the air spring lets the car adjust the air pressure inside the spring to change the performance or ride quality.
Air springs operationAir springs are generally used in heavy-duty vehicle suspension systems, where they are utilized to take advantage of compressed air that is necessary for the braking system. An advantage of the air suspension is the extra support provided by being able to change the pressure inside the spring which can modify the ride quality. When air is sent into the spring, there is a bladder that permits them to expand in a linear manner which lets allows them to be utilized as a force actuator.
Common issues with a faulty air suspension springA faulty air suspension spring can lead to body rolls, poor ride quality, and a decrease in engine performance.
