FAQ for Alloy Wheels Repair

Q: How can a leaking wheel be fixed?
A:
Aleaking wheel will require the wheel and tire to be removed from the vehicle. You will need to locate the leaking area and look to see if the wheel is bent or if it's a bad tire. If you determine the leak is coming from the wheel area, you will need to dismount the tire from the wheel. The rim will need to be scuffed so that the affected area is fixed. Apply tire silicone or sealant to the wheel where the affected area was repaired and mount the wheel back on the tire.

Q: What is the proper way to fix the air leaking from the wheel/tire caused by corrosion?
A:
Awater dunk tank leak test will need to be performed so you can determine where the leak is coming from, whether from the tire or the wheel itself. Once the affected area is found, you will need to sand the corrosion down until you get to material that is stable enough to finish correctly patching the wheel. After correctly patching the area, you will need to add sealant so that it fills the resurfaced bead.
