01/11/2022 Q: Why does GM recommend the use of single pass (referred to as "positive rake") bench and on-car brake lathes?
A:
GM Service and GM Brake Engineering have performed competitive evaluations on a significant number of bench and on-car brake lathes. These tests measured critical performance characteristics such as flatness, surface finish, and the ability of the lathe to repeat accuracy over many uses. In each test, single-pass lathe designs outperformed the competitors. Single-pass brake lathes are more productive requiring less time to perform the same procedure.

01/11/2022 Q: What should I notice in Brake pads and Rotor burnishing?
A:
Road test a vehicle under safe conditions and while obeying all traffic laws. Do not attempt any maneuvers that could jeopardize vehicle control. Burnishing the brake pads and brake rotors is necessary to ensure that the braking surfaces are properly prepared after service has been performed on the disc brake system. This procedure should be performed whenever the disc brake rotors have been refinished or replaced, and/or whenever the disc brake pads have been replaced.
