FAQ for Brake Disc Repair

Q: How to install the Brake Rotor?
A:
You need to clean all rust and contaminants from the mating surfaces of the hub flange and rotor and inspect the mating surfaces of the hub/axle flange and the rotor. Then you need to position the wheel hub to the brake rotor and install the 6-wheel hub bolts and the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Finally, you need to install the tire and wheel assembly.

You need to select a smooth road with little or no traffic and accelerate the vehicle to 48 km/h (30 mph). Then you need to apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. After that, you need to keep accelerating and stopping until approximately 20 stops have been completed.

Q: How to refinish the Brake Rotor?
A:
You need to use a micrometer to measure the thinnest point of the brake rotor, and you need to use the CH-47661 to refinish the brake rotor. Then you need to use 120 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper and a non-directional rotor finisher, if available, to create a non-directional braking surface. Finally, you need to clean the braking surfaces with GM P/N 12377981 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent, brake parts cleaner.
