Q: How do you remove the wheel drive shaft inner joint and boot?
A:
You need to remove the wheel drive shaft, the large clamp, the small clamp, and the tripot housing from the wheel drive shaft, compress the tripot seal up the wheel drive shaft bar, away from the tripot spider assembly toward the outboard end of the wheel drive shaft assembly, spread the spider snap ring with the J 8059 or equivalent, remove the snap ring, the spider assembly, the tripot bushing, and the tripot seal, and then clean the wheel drive shaft bar with a wire brush.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot replacement?
A:
The procedure is to remove the wheel drive shaft, wrap a shop towel around the axle shaft, place the wheel drive shaft horizontally in the bench vise, remove the large seal clamp and the small seal clamp, separate the seal from the joint outer race at the large end, position the seal behind the joint face, wipe the grease from the face of the joint inner race, cage, balls, etc., and then remove the outer joint from the wheel drive shaft bar, the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft bar and the seal from the wheel drive shaft bar.

Q: How do you install the wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot replacement?
A:
You can install the large clamp and the small clamp onto the seal, the seal onto the wheel drive shaft bar, and the retaining ring onto the wheel drive shaft bar, insert the grease from the service kit into the outer joint, position the outer joint horizontally, engage the inner race splines onto the axle shaft splines, compress the axle shaft retaining ring, install the outer joint to the wheel drive shaft bar, position the small end of the seal over the mating groove in the wheel drive shaft bar, compress the small clamp, vent the joint to relieve excess trapped air, compress the large clamp, and then install the wheel drive shaft.

The procedure is to slide the new clamps on the tripot seal, install the tripot seal over the wheel drive shaft and the tripot bushing into the seal, slide the spider assembly onto the wheel drive shaft, install the new spider snap ring with the J 8059 or equivalent and the tripot housing over the spider assembly and seat it in the bushing, seat the small end of the tripot seal into the groove on the wheel drive shaft, compress the small clamp using the J 43218 or equivalent, fill the joint and seal cavity with the grease supplied in the service kit, seat the large end of the tripot seal into the groove on the tripot bushing, check the stroke position of the joint, vent the joint to relieve excess trapped air, secure the large clamp, and install the wheel drive shaft.

A:
You can raise the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly, the brake caliper mounting bracket, the rear axle housing cover and the gasket, the pinion shaft locking bolt, the pinion shaft and the shaft part way, push the flange of the Axle Shaft toward the differential, and then remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft, the axle shaft from the housing and the axle shaft from the housing.
Q: How do you install the universal joint?
A:
You can position the universal bearings on either side of the yoke on the propeller shaft, install the universal joint spider, press the universal joint spider, install the retaining ring in the yoke, rotate the propeller shaft and the universal joint, install the other two universal bearings and wrap them with electrical tape or equivalent to hold the bearing in place, position the universal spider in the slip yoke, install the universal bearings in either side of the slip yoke, fully seat one of the universal spiders in the universal bearing, press the universal bearings into the slip yoke, install the retaining ring in the slip yoke, rotate the slip yoke, position the slip yoke in the propeller shaft and the universal bearing in the yoke of the propeller shaft, center the universal spider in the universal bearing, press the universal bearing into the yoke, install the retaining ring in the propeller shaft yoke, and then rotate the propeller shaft and the universal joint.

The procedure is to assemble the differential case, install the ring gear to the differential case, hand tighten the new ring gear bolts, install the new ring gear bolts and the differential assembly, fill the axle with the proper lubricant, and then remove the support and lower the vehicle.
