2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Caliper

Start with applying a thin coat of high temp silicone brake lube to the inside of the brake caliper guide pin boots. Then install the guide pins boots to the bracket, apply the lubricant to the brake caliper guide pins and the bushing, then install the pins to the bracket. Then add lubricant to the pad hardware mating surfaces of the bracket, then install the brake pad retainers and brake pad. Now you can remove the caliper support.

Start with greasing the new piston seal with clean brake fluid, then install it to the bore. Next, you will need to install the new dust boot on the caliper piston and insert the caliper piston into the caliper bore. Fully seat the dust boot seal in the counter house then attach the piston dust boot seal retaining ring to the groove in the caliper seal counterbore. Then install the brake caliper.

Start with installing the pads to the caliper, then install the guide pin through the caliper, and inner and outer brake pads. Install the pin to the upper guide pin to the outer caliper half. Install the retainer under the upper caliper pin assembly. Rotate the retainer downward and hold it there to install the lower caliper guide pin through the caliper brake pads. Install the upper guide pin to the outer caliper half. Be sure that the retainer is centered and holding the brake pads.

Start by removing the brake caliper from the brake caliper mounting. Then remove the brake pads from the brake caliper bracket, the brake pad retainers from the brake caliper bracket, the brake caliper mounting bracket bolts,.

After raising the vehicle, lift and support the vehicle. Then remove the guide pins from the caliper. Hold the lower end of the retainer upward and remove the retainer. Use a hammer to carefully tap the upper caliper brake pad pin out of the caliper. Remove brake pads.
