You should remove the engine shield, remove the steering linkage outer tie rod and remove the steering linkage inner tie rod from the relay rod using wrench J 34028.

Q: How to replace the Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod?
A:
You should use puller J 24319-B to separate the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads, clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle, lubricate the steering linkage inner tie rod threads with chassis lubricant and adjust the front toe.

Q: How do I install the Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod?
A:
You should remove all traces of oil, grease, or other contaminants, clean the threads of the steering linkage inner tie rod with denatured alcohol or the equivalent and allow to dry, apply red LOCTITE(TM)threadlocker, GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the steering linkage inner tie rod, install the steering linkage inner tie rod to the relay rod using wrench J 34028, install the steering linkage outer tie rod, install the engine shield and adjust the front toe.

Q: How do I remove the Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod (Standard)?
A:
You should remove the steering gear boot, place a pipe wrench on the flats on the steering gear rack next to the steering linkage inner tie rod, place a wrench on the flats of the steering linkage inner tie rod and rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod counterclockwise while holding the steering gear rack stationary until the steering linkage inner tie rod separates from the steering gear rack.

You should support the rear drive axle before removing either of the mounting bolts and finger-tighten the mounting bolt. This will allow for movement in the rear axle tie rod to align the opposite end mounting bolt and hole.

Q: How do I install the Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod (Standard)?
A:
You should apply LOCTITE(R)262, or equivalent, to the steering gear inner tie rod threads, attach the steering linkage inner tie rod onto the steering gear rack, place a pipe wrench on the flats on the steering gear rack next to the steering linkage inner tie rod, tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod and install the steering gear boot.
