You should remove the automatic transmission flexplate, remove the oil pan-to-rear oil seal housing bolts, remove the rear oil seal housing bolts, remove the rear oil seal housing and gasket, discard the gasket and remove and discard the rear oil seal.

You should remove the crankshaft balancer and remove the crankshaft front oil seal from the front cover.

Q: How do I install the Cover with Seal?
A:
You should install the J-41479-2A-guide cone and bolts onto the rear of the crankshaft, install the NEW rear housing gasket, rear housing with a seal, rear housing-to-engine bolts, and oil pan-to-rear housing bolts, tighten the rear housing-to-engine bolts until snug, tighten the oil pan-to-rear housing bolts to 12 Nm(106 lb in), tighten the rear housing-to-engine bolts to 30 Nm(22 lb-ft), remove the J-41479-2A-guide and install the automatic transmission flexplate.

Q: How do I install the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal (RPOs LC9/LMG/LY2/LY5)?
A:
You should lubricate the outer edge of the oil seal with clean engine oil, lubricate the front cover oil seal bore with clean engine oil, install the crankshaft front oil seal onto the J 41478 guide, install the J 41478 threaded rod (with nut, washer, guide, and oil seal) into the end of the crankshaft, use the J 41478 to install the oil seal into the cover bore and install the crankshaft balancer.
