Q: How do you replace the center intermediate steering shaft?
A:
You can turn the steering wheel, turn the ignition lock cylinder to the lock position, remove the key, insert anti-rotation pin J 42640 into the steering column access hole, remove the left front tire and wheel assembly, remove the center intermediate steering shaft bolt, remove the lower intermediate steering shaft bolt, disconnect the lower intermediate steering shaft, disconnect the center intermediate steering shaft, remove the center intermediate steering shaft from the vehicle with the lower intermediate steering shaft, remove the center intermediate steering shaft bolt and disconnect the center intermediate steering shaft from the lower intermediate steering shaft.

You can connect the center intermediate steering shaft and the lower intermediate steering shaft, install the center intermediate steering shaft bolt, install the center intermediate steering shaft to the vehicle, connect the center intermediate steering shaft to the upper intermediate steering shaft, install the center intermediate steering shaft bolt, connect the lower intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear, install the lower intermediate steering shaft bolt, install the left front tire and wheel assembly and remove anti-rotation pin J 42640.

The procedure is to disable the SIR system, remove the steering column from the vehicle, remove the turn signal switch housing, remove the tilt spring, remove 2 pivot pins from the steering column support assembly, remove the boot seal and remove the sensor locator and the sensor assembly if the sensor is present.
