You can transfer the string to either end of the new hood release cable, route the string and the hood release cable into the passenger compartment, remove the string, seat the hood release cable grommet into the wheel opening, connect the hood release cable to the hood release handle, install the fasteners, pull the string and the hood release cable, remove the string, connect the hood release cable to the hood latch, install the hood latch and close the hood.

The procedure is to open the hood, remove the hood latch, disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch, tie a piece of string around the hood release cable, remove the fasteners securing the hood release handle to the vehicle, disconnect the hood release cable from the hood release handle, remove the hood release cable grommet and remove the hood release cable.
