FAQ for Oxygen Sensor Repair
Q: How do you install the Heated Oxygen Sensor?
A:
You can coat the threads with anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953, or equivalent if you reinstall the old sensor, install the HO2S, connect the HO2S electrical connector to the engine wiring harness electrical connector, install the CPA retainer, install the front propeller shaft to the front differential, if equipped with 4WD, and lower the vehicle.

02/11/2022 Q: How do you remove the FCI connectors?
A:
You can slide the lever lock forward while pressing down on the lever lock release tab, disconnect the connector, locate the dress cover locking tabs at the corners of the dress cover, use a small flat-blade tool to release the locking tabs, and remove the dress cover, use a small flat-blade tool to slide the terminal position assurance (TPA) up one notch on both ends of the connector, pull the wire out of the back of the connector while holding the removal tool in place.

02/11/2022 Q: What should be noticed in the Oxygen Sensor Service?
A:
You should handle the oxygen sensors carefully to prevent damage to the component, keep the electrical connector and the exhaust inlet end free of contaminants, and avoid using cleaning solvents on the sensor and dropping or mishandling the sensor.

02/11/2022 Q: What should be noticed when you remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor Pigtail?
A:
The heated oxygen sensors each use a permanently attached pigtail and connector. you should not remove the pigtail from the heated oxygen sensor. you should handle the oxygen sensor carefully. you should not drop the oxygen sensor. you should replace the oxygen sensor if the pigtail wiring, the terminals, or the connector is damaged.

02/11/2022 Q: What should be noticed when you remove the Excessive Force and Oxygen Sensor?
A:
The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is below 48°C (120°F). Excessive force may damage threads in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe.

02/11/2022 Q: What should be noticed in the Silicon Contamination of the Heated Oxygen Sensors Service?
A:
You should remove the HO2S and visually inspect the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream to check for contamination. if contaminated, the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream will have a white powdery coating. silicon contamination causes a high but false HO2S signal voltage (rich exhaust indication). the control module will then reduce the amount of fuel delivered to the engine, causing a severe driveability problem.

02/11/2022 Q: What should you do when you replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor?
A:
You should use a scan tool to clear a code, regardless of whether or not a DTC is set and you should learn how to reset HO2S heater resistance with a scan tool. By doing so, you can reset the HO2S resistance learn the value, and avoid possible HO2S failure.
