The proper way is to remove the floor console, remove the shift control lever assembly mounting bolts, remove the shift control lever assembly, remove the two shift lever control knob retaining screws, the then knob from the assembly, remove the shift lock solenoid retaining screws, and then remove the solenoid from the assembly.
