Q: How to fill the Rear Drive Axle-Lubricant Change?
A:
You should install the drain plug to the Differential, clean any dirt from around the differential fill plug, remove the fill plug from the differential, fill the differential with 75W90 synthetic axle lubricant, GM P/N 12378261 (Canadian P/N 10953455) or equivalent, inspect the gear lubricant level to ensure it is even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 6 mm (0.25 in) below the opening, install the fill plug to the differential and lower the vehicle.
Q: How to diagnose Squeak Noise?
A:
It occurs when driving the vehicle at various speeds a squeaking sound occurs. If one or more of the universal joints have lost lubricant, you should replace the Driveshaft completely and if the C/V boot is worn or torn, you should also replace the driveshaft completely.
Q: How to disassemble the Front Wheel Drive Shaft Outer Joint and Boot?
A:
You should place the wheel drive shaft horizontally in a bench vise, remove the large and small seal retaining clamp, separate and slide the seal away, wipe the grease, remove the outer joint, the axle shaft retaining ring, the seal, and the wheel drive shaft, place the outer race vertically in a bench vise, tap on the wheel drive shaft joints inner cage, remove the exposed ball, position the cage and inner race, repeat until all of the balls are removed, position the cage and the inner race 90 degrees to the centerline of the outer race, align the cage windows with the lands of the outer race, remove and position the cage and the inner race, rotate the inner race 90 degrees to the centerline of the cage, align the lands of the inner race with the windows of the cage, insert an inner race land into a cage window, pivot the inner race down and remove it, clean, dry and inspect all the parts.
