FAQ for Power Steering Reservoir Repair

Q: What should be verified during Power Steering System Bleeding?
A:
Hoses touching the frame, body, or engine may cause system noise. So you should verify that the hoses do not touch any other part of the vehicle. Loose connections may not leak but could allow air into the steering system. So you also need to verify that all hose connections are tight.

Q: How to assemble the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir-Off Vehicle?
A:
You may need to check the TORX(R) head bolts on the hydraulic pump housing for tightness, and tighten the bolts to 20-25 N.m (15-18 lb-ft), then check the valve bore plug and the O-ring union fitting and tighten the plug to 50-60 N.m (37-44 lb-ft), lubricate the new O-ring seal with power steering fluid, connect the O-ring seal to the reservoir and connect the reservoir assembly to the hydraulic pump housing, and tap retaining clips with a hammer, attach the pump to the mounting bracket assembly and tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 28-38 N.m (21-28 lb-ft).

Q: What should be noticed when you ill pump the reservoir with fluid to the minimum system level, FULL COLD level, or middle of hash mark on the cap stick fluid level indicator?
A:
With hydro-boost only, the oil level will appear falsely high if the hydro-boost accumulator is not fully charged. Do not apply the brake pedal with the engine OFF. This will discharge the hydro-boost accumulator.
