2008 Cadillac DTS Drive Belt

You will need to remove the water pump drive belt tensioner, then remove the water pump drive belt by sliding the belt off of the drive pulley and water pump pulley.

The removal procedure is to remove the right front wheelhouse liner, install a 1/2 inch drive breaker to the drive belt tensioner, push down on the breaker bar to release the tension, then remove the drive belt from the power steering pump, slowly return the tensioner to the original position, remove the belt from the lower pulley and idlers and finally partially raise the vehicle.

You may need to route the water pump drive belt around the water pump pulley and the water pump drive pulley, install the water pump drive belt tensioner, then check the drive belt for proper seating in all the pulley grooves.

Because belt dressing causes the breakdown of the composition of the drive belt. Failure to follow this recommendation will damage the drive belt.

The installation procedure is to route the drive belt around all the pulleys except for the power steering pump, lower the vehicle, and install a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar to the drive belt tensioner, next push down on the breaker bar to release the tension and route the belt around the power steering pump pulley, slowly return the tensioner to its original position, and inspect the drive belt for the proper routing and correct alignment after drive belt installation, then install the right front wheelhouse liner, lastly start the engine and check for proper belt and accessory operation.
