FAQ for Fuel Sending Unit Repair

Q: How do you remove the Fuel Tank Module?
A:
You need to remove the fuel tank, disconnect the fuel pump fuel feed line quick connect fitting from the fuel tank module and evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent front pipe quick connect fitting from the fuel tank module, reposition the fuel pump fuel feed line and the EVAP canister vent front pipe out of the way, disconnect the fuel sender wiring harness electrical connector from the fuel tank pressure sensor and the fuel sender wiring harness electrical connector from the fuel tank module, install the J 45722 to the fuel tank module lock ring, rotate the lock ring counterclockwise unlocking the fuel tank module lock ring, remove the J 45722 and the fuel tank module lock ring, raise the module, tilt the module towards the lower front corner of the fuel tank to allow the level sensor float arm to clear the tank opening, remove the module from the fuel tank, discard the fuel in the module reservoir bucket into an approved container, and then remove and discard the fuel tank module seal and the fuel level sensor.

Q: How do you install the Fuel Tank Module?
A:
You need to install the fuel level sensor and a new fuel tank module seal onto the fuel tan, tilt the module towards the lower front corner of the fuel tank to allow the level sensor float arm to clear the tank opening, install the module into the fuel tank, position and install the fuel tank module lock ring, install the J 45722 to the fuel tank module lock ring, rotate the lock ring clockwise locking the fuel tank module lock ring, remove the J 45722 from the fuel tank module lock ring, connect the fuel sender wiring harness electrical connector to the fuel tank module and the fuel sender wiring harness electrical connector to the fuel tank pressure sensor, position the fuel pump fuel feed line and the EVAP canister vent front pipe to the fuel tank, connect EVAP canister vent front pipe quick connect fitting to the fuel tank module and the fuel pump fuel feed line quick connect fitting to the fuel tank module, and then install the fuel tank.
