FAQ for Brake Master Cylinder Bleeder Tool Repair

Q: What is the flushing procedure for the hydraulic brake system?
A:
The procedure is to inspect the brake fluid for the following conditions and the master cylinder reservoir cap diaphragm and the reservoir-to-master cylinder grommets for swelling, clean out all the hydraulic brake pipes, dry the brake pipes, repair or replace all of the following components listed and install them to the vehicle, and then pressure bleed the hydraulic brake system.

Q: What is the bleed procedure for the hydraulic brake system bleeding (manual)?
A:
The procedure is to place a clean shop cloth beneath the brake master cylinder, with the ignition off and the brakes cool, apply the brakes 3-5 times, fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container, install a proper box-end wrench onto the right rear wheel hydraulic circuit bleeder valve and a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, submerge the open end of the transparent hose into a transparent container partially filled with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container, depress the brake pedal fully and maintain steady pressure on the pedal, loosen the bleeder valve to purge air from the wheel hydraulic circuit, tighten the bleeder valve, release the brake pedal, wait 15 seconds,, install a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve and a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the maximum-fill level with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container, and then depress and release the brake pedal.

Q: What is the automated bleed procedure for the antilock brake system?
A:
The procedure is to install a scan tool to the vehicle, start the engine and allow the engine to idle, begin the automated bleed procedure, follow the instructions on the scan tool to complete the automated bleed procedure, apply the brake pedal when instructed by the scan too, turn the ignition off, remove the scan tool from the vehicle, fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the maximum-fill level with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container, bleed the hydraulic brake system, apply the brakes 3-5 times, or until the brake pedal becomes firm, slowly depress and release the brake pedal, observe the feel of the brake pedal (If the brake pedal feels spongy, repeat the automated bleeding procedure. If the brake pedal still feels spongy after repeating the automated bleeding procedure inspect the brake system for external leaks.), turn the ignition key on, with the engine OFF, and check to see if the brake system warning lamp remains illuminated. (If the brake system warning lamp remains illuminated, do not allow the vehicle to be driven until it is diagnosed and repaired.), drive the vehicle to exceed 13 km/h (8 mph) to allow ABS initialization to occur, observe the brake pedal feel, and if the brake pedal feels spongy, repeat the automated bleeding procedure until a firm brake pedal is obtained.

Q: What is the bleed procedure for the hydraulic brake system bleeding (pressure)?
A:
The procedure is to place a clean shop cloth beneath the brake master cylinder, with the ignition off and the brakes cool, apply the brakes 3-5 times, clean the outside of the reservoir on and around the reservoir cap, install the J 44894-A to the brake master cylinder reservoir, connect the J 29532 , or equivalent, to the J 44894-A, charge the J 29532 , or equivalent, air tank to 175-205 kPa (25-30 psi), open the J 29532 , or equivalent, fluid tank valve to allow pressurized brake fluid to enter the brake system, wait approximately 30 seconds, inspect the entire hydraulic brake system, install a proper box-end wrench onto the right rear wheel hydraulic circuit bleeder valve and a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, loosen the bleeder valve to purge air from the wheel hydraulic circuit, allow fluid to flow until air bubbles stop flowing from the bleeder, tighten the bleeder valve, install a proper box-end wrench onto the left front wheel hydraulic circuit bleeder valve, install a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve and a transparent hose over the end of the bleeder valve, close the J 29532 , or equivalent, fluid tank valve, disconnect the J 29532 , or equivalent, from the J 44894-A, remove the J 44894-A from the brake master cylinder reservoir, depress and release the brake pedal. Observe the feel of the brake pedal, turn the ignition key on, with the engine off, and then check to see if the brake system warning lamp remains illuminated.
