Q: How to properly service the brake drum?
A:
The proper way is to retract the brake shoe adjuster if the brake drum will not slide over the brake shoes, clean the drum mating surface of the rear axle flange, and adjust the drum brake.

Q: How to refinish the brake drum?
A:
The proper way is to use a micrometer to measure the largest diameter of the brake drum, thoroughly clean the rust from the brake drum flange, refinish the brake drum, use 120 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper to create a non-directional braking surface, and clean the braking surfaces with GM P/N 12377981.
