You will need to remove the propeller shaft, the snap rings, and the U-joint caps. If the bearing cup is not completely removed, you should place the exposed portion of the bearing cap into a soft-jaw vise, then rotate the propeller shaft and press the opposite bearing cup out of the yoke, then remove the cross from the yoke and the remaining universal joint parts, then inspect the retaining ring grooves for dirt, corrosion and pieces of the old ring, and inspect the bearing cup bores for burns or imperfections, finally clean the retaining ring grooves.
