The tools required include J 21177-A Drum to Brake Shoe Clearance Gage and J 38400 Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover.

You need to apply a small amount of high-temperature silicone grease or equivalent to the contact areas between the rear brake shoes and the backing plate, next install the park brake cable in the lever, and install the retractor spring on the backing plate, then use a pair of channel locks, install the retractor spring in the primary brake shoe, install the secondary brake shoe on the backing plate, use the J 38400 or equivalent, install the retractor spring in the secondary brake shoe, install the park brake adjusting hardware, use the J 22364-01 to adjust the rear brake shoes, then install the rear brake drum, finally lower the vehicle.
