Q: How do you remove the steering gear cylinder pipe assembly and seal?
A:
You need to remove the bolt from the cylinder line retaining plate at the valve end and the cylinder line retaining plate and loosen both cylinder line nuts on the cylinder end of the gear assembly. Then you can remove both cylinder line assemblies from the rack and pinion gear assembly and remove and discard the O-rings seals from the valve end.

Q: How do you remove the Power Steering Gear (Non-Rack and Pinion)?
A:
You need to place a drain pan under the vehicle, remove the engine protection shield and the power steering hoses from the steering gear, cap the ends of the hoses and the power steering gear, disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear, remove the pitman arm to relay rod nut and disconnect the pitman arm from the relay rod using J 24319-B. Then you can remove the bolts retaining the steering gear to the frame, the steering gear from the vehicle, the pitman arm to the power steering gear retaining nut, and the pitman arm from the power steering gear using J 6632-01 or J 29107-A.

You need to disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the rack and pinion, raise and support the vehicle, remove the engine protection shield, place a suitable drain pan under the vehicle, remove the front tire and wheel assemblies and check for proper wheel alignment upon completion of the repair.

A:
You need to lubricate and install the O-rings seals onto the cylinder lines, place the smaller cylinder line into the valve housing, the other end of the cylinder line at the gear tube end, the larger cylinder line into the valve housing, the other end of the cylinder line at the gear tube end and the cylinder line retaining plate over the cylinder line beads at the valve end. Then you can install the bolt into the cylinder line retaining plate and tighten and tighten both cylinder line nuts at the cylinder end.

Q: What is the Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload adjustment-Off Vehicle procedure?
A:
You need to loosen the adjuster plug lock nut, turn the adjuster plug clockwise until the adjuster plug bottoms in the gear assembly, turn the adjuster plug back 50 degrees to 70 degrees (approximately one flat) and install the adjuster plug lock nut to the adjuster plug.

You need to install the pitman arm to the power steering gear, the pitman arm to the power steering gear retaining nut and washer, the steering gear to the frame and install the retaining bolts, the pitman arm to the relay rod, the pitman arm to the relay rod nut and the intermediate shaft to the steering gear, remove the caps or plugs from the steering gear and hoses, install the hoses to the steering gear and the engine protection shield, remove the safety stands and bleed the power steering system.
