Q: How do you remove the Camshaft (RPOs LY6/L76/L92)?
A:
You need to remove the radiator support, the valve lifters, the engine front cover, and the starter motor, then install the J 42386-A and bolts, rotate the crankshaft sprocket until the camshaft position (CMP) actuator alignment mark and the crankshaft sprocket alignment mark are aligned and remove and discard the CMP actuator solenoid valve, the CMP actuator and timing chain, and the camshaft retainer bolts and retainer. Then you can install the camshaft sprocket bolt into the camshaft front bolt hole, carefully rotate and remove the camshaft from the engine block and remove the bolt from the camshaft.

Q: How do you remove the camshaft position actuator?
A:
You need to remove the oil pump, remove and discard the camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve and loosen and separate the CMP actuator and timing chain from the camshaft. Next, you can position your fingers behind the actuator sprocket and pull the actuator away from the front of the camshaft and never pull on the reluctor wheel when attempting to remove the actuator. Then you can remove the CMP actuator and timing chain and insert and secure a tie strap through the center of the actuator and over the reluctor wheel.
