Q: How to remove the upper intake manifold?
A:
After draining the cooling system, you need to remove the intake manifold cover and the air cleaner outlet duct, disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve quick connect fitting, remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube, and reposition the brake booster vacuum hose clamp. Then you need to remove the brake booster vacuum hose, disconnect the electronic control module electrical connector and t the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector, remove the engine harness clip, disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve electrical connector, and remove the engine harness clips. After that, you can disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil and remove the spark plug wire harness clips. Then you can remove the PCV foul air tube bolt, the PCV foul air tube clip, the PCV foul air tube, the ignition coil, the EGR valve, and the generator bracket. Then you can remove and inspect the throttle body seal.

After removing the upper intake manifold, the valve rocker arm covers, and the fuel injector rail, you need to reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp. Then you need to remove the radiator inlet hose and disconnect the heater inlet hose. After that, you can remove the heater inlet pipe nut, the heater inlet pipe, the lower intake manifold bolts, the lower intake manifold, the valve rocker arms and pushrods, and the lower intake manifold gaskets and seals. Then you need to clean the lower intake manifold gasket, seal surfaces, and the gasket and seal surfaces. Then you need to remove all the loose room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealer, the thermostat housing bolts and housing, and the thermostat.
