2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Crankshaft Seal

The procedure is to remove the engine flywheel, the oil pan-to-rear cover bolts, the rear cover bolts, the rear cover, and the gasket, and remove and discard the rear oil seal.

You can lubricate the outer edge of the oil seal and the front cover oil seal bore with clean engine oil, install the crankshaft front oil seal, install the J41478 threaded rod with nut, washer, guide, and oil seal into the end of the crankshaft, install the oil seal, hold the hex on the installer bolt, rotate the installer nut clockwise, remove the J41478, inspect the oil seal for proper installation and install the crankshaft balancer.

The procedure is to remove the crankshaft balancer and remove and discard the crankshaft oil seal.

You can apply a 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of sealant GM U.S. P/N 12378190, or an equivalent 20 mm (0.80 inches) long to the oil pan to engine block junction, install the rear cover gasket and cover, install the rear cover bolts, install the oil pan-to-rear cover bolts, rotate the crankshaft, install the J41476 and bolts, tighten the J41476 mounting bolts, remove the J41476, install a new crankshaft rear oil seal and install the engine flywheel.
